We’ve been there. Standing in front of the closet, overwhelmed. In front of the mirror, unsure. Elbows deep in a pile of T-shirts, frantic. What goes with what? How come this doesn’t fit? Take a deep breath. We can help.
Welcome to Ask A Stylist, where we field your questions and deliver tips on how to wear your Levi’s®.
QUESTION:
I want to be a stylish mom, but I also want to dress my age. Which jeans would you recommend?
ANSWER:
We’d recommend a mid-rise or high-rise jean with a straight leg. The straight leg is flattering on every body type and goes with pretty much every shoe known to womankind — sneakers, high tops, boots, ballet flats, you name it. And the higher the rise, the more your jean will hold you in — which we all appreciate as we get older. We have straight-leg fits for all ages, starting with our most famous fit of all: the 501® Original.
QUESTION:
I’ll be honest: I’m a man with a belly. Should I wear my shirts tucked or untucked?
ANSWER:
And we’ll be honest: Either way could work. The secret is finding a shirt (striped, pink, whatever you want) with the right proportions for your body — that means width, of course, but also length. To check the width, button your shirt and make sure the buttons aren’t straining. Then check the length: When you tuck it in, do you have acres of excess fabric poofing over the top? That’s no bueno. Ask any tailor (even your dry cleaner) to bring up the hemline so it fits snugly into your pants. This shortening will serve you equally well if you decide to untuck. An untucked shirt hem should fall just below your belt line. Longer than that, your shirt’s too big. No matter what size your belly is.
