DIY HANGING PLANT HOLDER
DIYS /
November 2020
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Scrap denim (legs from jeans are ideal)
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Chalk
- 2” Metal Ring
- Pins
- ~9” Potted Plant
- Sewing Machine
- Something to hook your metal ring on for leverage while braiding
STEP 1
Cut 25 strips of denim approximately 3/4” wide and 27” long.
STEP 2
Fold five of the long denim strips through the metal ring and bunch the ends together. This will leave 10 strips to work with.
STEP 3
Sew additional single strips to the ends of nine of the dangling ends with a 1” overlap.
Pro tip: If you don’t have a sewing machine, use square knots here and wrap the area with another strip to conceal, if desired.
STEP 4
Make 3 braids about 18 inches in length from the metal ring. There will be one strip leftover. Don’t freak out.
STEP 5
Here’s where things get knotty (watch the video for a play-by-play). Knot 2 strips into the end of each braid using square knots.
STEP 6
Tie new strips to the existing strips in the metal loop, moving one braid over each time.
STEP 7
Gather the dangling strands and knot together ~3” from the closest knots. This will create the center knot that supports the base of your pot from underneath.
STEP 8
Bunch the 3 braids tightly together and use the remaining strip to make a wrap knot around the bunch for stabilization.
STEP 9
Add the finishing touches and accoutrements. Tighten all knots and curl ends of strips.
STEP 10
Add soil and your favorite greenery, find just the right spot, and do everything in your power to keep it alive!
