People always say less is more, and when it comes to the capsule wardrobe they’re absolutely right. So what is a capsule wardrobe? You’ve probably heard the name coupled with some nebulous phrase like french girl cool or sustainable style–and we’ll dig a little into both in a minute. But first things first: a capsule wardrobe is a highly edited wardrobe full of timeless multipurpose staples that can be mixed and matched for virtually any occasion–from work to a party or just running errands. Blue Monday
A blue Monday starts with denim on denim. Claire paired our classic Trucker in a rich medium wash with our newest cut: the 70s High Rise Slim Straight in a dark wash for some slight contrast. Both are timeless pieces with few details to cause a fuss, but together they’re statement makers. We love how she finished off the look with a classic canvas sneaker in the same color family for that head-to-toe vibe that keeps things cohesive.
Too-Posh Tuesday
Tuesday is all about that scarf. Claire’s statement scarf with its perfect effortless drape is a dramatic addition to this versatile look–not to mention it adds sneaky warmth when she needs it most. 501® Original Fit denim is borrowed from the men’s section for a slouchy look that transcends gender. A dark almost greenish wash is the perfect base when combined with a basic black sweater, and some leather sneakers with a pop of color. Sunglasses add to the chicness and tie the whole thing together.
No-Worries Wednesday
Wednesday’s look is light, bright and a little loose. A big oversized shirt immediately snags your attention for both how chic it looks and how comfortable it must feel. Big menswear vibes are balanced out by its relaxed fit and a pair of laidback distressed 501® Originals in a cool-girl light wash. Our favorite New Balance sneaks keep everything super functional and modern, so you can stay on the go.
"THAT GIRL" THURSDAY
Nothing, and we really mean nothing is cooler than an all-black outfit. Like, sure we absolutely love color, but something about the "Man in Black" getup seems to just bring the heat every time. This outfit is no exception. Claire picked our timeless 501® Original Fit in a dark black wash and paired it with her slouchy hero sweater from Tuesday. Black loafers, black sunglasses, and a black purse, and round out the trio of dark accessories while a finisher gold chain is the perfect counterpoint.
Flashback Friday
Friday we get a little playful with a statement-making Trucker Jacket in a yet-to-be-seen allover print. Claire keeps the background players neutral (black 501® skinnies with a black t-shirt) so as not to distract from the vintage-inspired plaid of the jacket. Then she ties in the tonal palette of the Trucker to the look with light pair of boots. Black sunnies are honestly a staple at this point.
Saturday Night Vibe
It’s the weekend and Claire has really upped the ante here. We’ve got a classic day-to-night look. The same pair of dark wash 501® skinnies from yesterday take on a whole new meaning in this context. A chic oversized blazer and a pair of black kitten heel booties magically elevate the look from casual-cool to fancy-dinner-approved. The beige top brings a pop of color for the day while the overall dark palette keeps it chic enough for night.
Sporty Spice Sunday
Sunday’s look is pure function. If we’re out and about, it’s entirely in the service of running errands or an act of necessity to get through the day. Claire’s look is a total reflection of the “Avoid the Sunday scaries at all costs” mentality. Vintage 501®s from Levi’s® SecondHand® with an easy fit pair with a men’s oversized sweatshirt and a puffy vest for a bit of warmth. A black hat keeps it casual (and in our personal experience can be great for hiding bed head), while clean white sneakers keep it the most chill.
