Levi’s® SecondHand: Customizing Vintage with Chris Horan

Chris Horan is a Los Angeles-based stylist, and an avid wearer of vintage denim. Best known for styling clients including Barbie Ferreira and Charlie XCX, his work can also be seen in the pages of CR Fashion Book, Dazed, W and more. We chatted with Thousand Oaks native on his design inspiration, customization and the adventure of styling vintage pieces.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE THESE SPECIFIC DESIGNS FOR YOUR VINTAGE PIECES?

I wanted to make something that I would grab for year round – not just in June. At the same time, I wanted it to be clear that it was a celebration of Pride and so I combined that with my love of flowers. I loved the ideas of using the back tabs in an unconventional way. 

HOW DO YOUR PIECES SPEAK TO PRIDE FOR 2022?

I think these pieces speak to Pride for 2022 in that they are unapologetically me. Choosing elements that make me feel comfortable and hot lol.

WHAT MAKES CUSTOMIZATION SO SPECIAL?

I think customization is so special especially with Levi’s® because it’s such an iconic brand that being able to add your own details create such a contrast with pieces we are all so familiar with.

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES SECONDHAND CLOTHING UNIQUE?

SecondHand is so unique because it brings an element of adventure to finding new pieces. Nothing ever fits the same and when you find those perfect pieces it’s such a win and feels kismet.

HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE SECONDHAND IN YOUR STYLING? WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT TO YOU?

I love pairing Levi’s® SecondHand with my more daring pieces. I always love the contrast of something effortless with something that’s more challenging. I think playing with casual vs dressed up always creates a look that speaks to me. It helps never let anything be too fussy.
