Since 1853, customization has been part of our DNA. We tailored workwear for miners out West. We came up with new ways of using denim fabric. And, most notably, we invented the blue jean. Then, we started a revolution: a movement of making clothing personal to the wearer. From function to fashion, people have been customizing their Levi’s® for more than 145 years. And everybody who lives in Levi’s® knows that over time their denim becomes reflective of how they live their lives — deeply personal, always original. Whether you’re creating something from scratch or customizing an existing piece, Levi’s® Tailor Shop takes that relationship to the next level through three pillars of personalization.

OUR SERVICES 🧵
SUNDRIES
Decorative elements such as patches, buttons, studs, and shank buttons that are used to personalize and enhance garments, adding unique and stylish touches. | Pins | Enamel pins are small pins that can be temporarily added to garments and are often worn on the lapel of a jacket. Often ornamental, they can indicate the wearer’s affiliation with an organization or cause. |
Patches | Originally added to jeans in areas where denim had worn thin and needed to be reinforced, denim patches are now used as a decoration to give jeans a vintage feel.
Studs | A stud is a 2-piece metal fastener that pierces through fabric to reveal its 3D post protruding from the garment’s surface. Popularized in the late ’70s and ’80s with the rise of the punk movement, they’re used widely today in craft and customization to reflect one’s personal style.
Shank button | When a garment has missing or damaged hardware, new buttons can be used to replace and repair the old ones.
Back Patch | Replacing the back leather label of jeans for customization or restoration.
Levi's Tab | Replacing the Levi’s logo tab for customization or restoration.
ALTERATION
Modifying garments to achieve a better fit or desired style through techniques like hemming, tapering, and adjusting lengths while maintaining original garment features. | Raw hem | Removing the bottom finished hem to create a frayed look. Cutting a raw edge at bottom of garment that will lead
to natural fraying with wear. |
Cuffed hem | Folding and sewing the hem of a garment to the desired length, creating a permanent cuff.
Standard Hem | A garment finishing method, where the bottom edge of the garment is folded narrowly and sewn to prevent
unravelling. | |
Original hem | Shortening the pant leg while maintaining the original hem.
Tapers | Tapering is the practice of taking in the leg opening to create a silhouette that narrows towards the ankles.
Cropped Trucker | Shortening the lenght of a trucker, raw or with replacement of the waistband.
Shirt Hems | Creating a new hem on shirts to achieve the desired length.
PANELING
Involves replacing sections of a garment with new fabric panels, often using different materials or colors, to refresh or customize the look, commonly applied to jackets, jeans, and other denim items. | Trucker back panel | Replacing or covering the center back panel of a trucker jacket with new fabric. |
Seam Trim | Adding new fabric trims along the seams of garments for a decorative or functional update.
Trucker Yoke Panel | Covering the shoulder yoke of a trucker jacket with new fabric.
Trucker Collar Panel | Replacing the collar of a trucker jacket with new fabric for a refreshed look.
Pant Leg Panel | Adding new fabric over a segment of a jean leg to create contrast or repair.
Back Pocket Replacement | Replacing the back pocket on jeans with new material.
Bottom Back Yoke Panel | Adding new fabric over the back yoke panel of jeans.
DISTRESSING
The art of making apparel to wear or become well-worn by using a razor or dremel. Distressed jeans feature fraying, stitches or rip-and-repair details to create a worn, lived-in look. | Distressed Hem | Cutting a raw edge at bottom of garment then manually removing horizontal threads to create a shirt fringe look. |
Texture Abrasion | Lightly distressing the surface of denim to give it a worn, vintage appearance.
Clean Cuts | Making sharp, clean cuts in denim for a modern, edgy style.
Removing Wrap Thread | Unraveling and removing wrap threads from denim to add a distressed detail.
Hole with Frayed Edges | Creating intentional holes with frayed edges to add character to denim.
REPAIRING
Fixing damaged garments by mending holes, tears, and worn areas, including patching, darning, and replacing components like belt loops, to restore and extend the life of the clothing. | Patch | Placing a patch over or under a hole to repair a garment. |
Darning | The mending of rips, holes or tears by using a thin fabric backing and stitching in the diagonal weave thus
reinforcing and repairing the denim.
Belt Loop Replacement | Repairing or replacing broken belt loops on pants.
Seat & Crotch Repair | Reinforcing and repairing worn or torn seats and crotches to extend the garment's life.
Re-sew Levi’s® Arcuate | Restitching the iconic Levi’s back pocket arcuate design, either in the original or a new accent color.
Hand Repair (Sahsiko) | Japanese decorative reinforcement technique using a running stitch to leave the reapired fabric stronger than
before. | |
EMBROIDERY
A sewing technique where a series of looped stitches form a chain-like pattern. Chain stitching can be used in embroidery to monogram or “draw” illustrations in fabric.
UPCYLCING
The creative process of transforming old or unused garments into new, fashionable pieces by redesigning and repurposing materials, promoting sustainability while showcasing individual style. |
